From Apartment to Apartment

As I said, the first bit of our time in Prague we largely stayed in due to inclimate health. We also were rather snowed in. The first day we arrived Prague saw the largest down dump of snow in 50 years. We were buried in nearly half a meter of snow (that is 1.5 feet for you North Americans).

So we idled away our time playing while Michael worked. This involved keeping the little one occupied with few things;we brought very few toys along with us. Luke learned to spin disks around and entertain himself fairly well. All in all, between the sickness and the jet lag, we had a great time. But our time here was coming to an end.

You see, we were in a temporary apartment. We had 2 weeks from arrival in Prague to find a new permanent apartment and transition our things from Huntsville into that apartment. It was a logistical challenge, considering if we moved into the new apartment without moving our things in we would be utterly without anything, including beds, kitchen wares, you name it.

Being sick for a week also cut into our time available to find an apartment. By the end of the first week we had not seen a single apartment. So what did we do? We prayed.

Oh yes, we prayed. The Lord often brings us to a place just like that where we simply cannot accomplish the task on our own. There is seemingly no way out. It is those times that when we pray and depend on Him, He gets all the glory and boy does He show up.

So within a period of three days we not only find an apartment but coordinate to secure it. There is the one small problem that we don't have a means to pay for the apartment. You see, ever since the Anti-Terrorist movement in US politics, transfering money out of the US has been very difficult. We were aware of this of course until faced with the need to do so. We attempted to transfer funds from our US bank to our Czech bank only to find that the US bank would not do so. Apparently there are only a handful of authorized US banks that can transfer funds out of the US.

So again we prayed and God made a way. We were able to get just enough of the funds established to transfer and make payment for the apartment the day before we were to move in. So on Friday, the day we had to move out of our temporary apartment, we packed up and moved from the one apartment to the other. We also had all of our belongings that had traveled before us across the sea delivered that same afternoon. When we arrived in our new "home" our "home" arrived with us. Praise God!

Thus the great unpacking began.

This was quite the start of our adventure and we certainly hoped that things would settle out and become easier going forward, but with the Lord they are seldom so and we knew in our hearts that there were some exciting and difficult times ahead.

Long time coming

It has been a bit of a long time coming but we finally are starting a blog to document our travels. So as to catch everyone up on the past few months, we will endeavor to retroactively post.

That said, the first few days in Prague we were utterly wiped out. Here is David trying to play in between being exhausted and sick.

It was a regular event that one of us was recoving from sickness or getting sick for the first few weeks. Perhaps the water, perhaps the stress.
